We were visiting Arizona for work and decided to take on Camelback Mountain. It was only a short distance from our hotel so we grabbed several water bottles, and hitched a ride on the shuttle to the trail head.

This hike was TOUGH! At 105 degrees in the desert of Arizona we seriously contemplated turning back at the 1 mile marker. Just ONE MILE! This from the two hikers that took on a 17.5 mile day hike and lived to tell the tale. It definitely earned the difficulty rating of 9.

The hike started our fairly straightforward, but then without warning we were rock climbing 45 degrees! We eventually made it to the top and were rewarded with a glorious view. The trek back was even more difficult as we had to carefully pick our steps, but we made it injury free.

The sun sapped Miranda and we think she may have gotten a little overheated. We went back to the hotel and she slept for 14 hours before we had to wake up for our meeting the next day.

We were happy to have accomplished it, and many at our meeting of mostly older folks were proud of our accomplishment as well.
